Behind us is The International Ocean Data Conference 2022 - The Data We Need for the Ocean We Want, which took place on February 14-16 in Sopot under the auspices of UNESCO. The Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, as the leader of the eCUDO.pl project, hosted this event. The conference was an excellent platform to present the goals and results of the project on the international forum.
Over 1,000 people from all over the world registered online for the conference, and nearly 100 participated in person.
For the IO PAN this is a very significant event - we showed our presence in the international discussion on data sharing, and we entered a very important point in the Institute's evaluation in the field of 'impact'. We received many very positive reviews of this event.
The conference was under the honorary patronage of, among others by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The joint position of the directors of three scientific institutes researching the sea:
Mariusz Sapota - director of Institute of Oceanography, University of Gdańsk in Gdynia;
Piotr Margoński - director of Sea Fisheries Institute, National Research Institute in Gdynia;
Jan Marcin Węsławski - director of Institute of Oceanology, Polish Academy of Sciences in Sopot;
on the cliff in Gdynia-Orłowo and the nearby beach.
Ze smutkiem dowiedzieliśmy się, że dziś w nocy odszedł w wieku 86 lat dr inż. Jacek Wyrwiński, nasz emerytowany długoletni pracownik, Główny Inżynier, niezwykle zaangażowany w sprawy Instytutu i jego rozwoju - szczególnie OCEANII. Był jednym z inicjatorów pikników naukowych, zawsze aktywny, pomocny i otwarty na kontakty z innymi. Był jedną z najbardziej rozpoznawalnych postaci w historii IO PAN. Mamy w pamięci jego pożegnalny prezent – album rocznicowy OCEANII, którego był pomysłodawcą. Rodzinie oraz najbliższym składamy wyrazy serdecznego współczucia.

The host of the “International Ocean Data Conference 2022 – The Data We Need for the Ocean We Want” is the leader of the project eCUDO.pl - Institute of Oceanology Polish Academy of Sciences.
The objectives of this conference will be to consider the regional and global strategies and policies needed to achieve the digital ecosystem, discuss existing and required technological changes and methods for their implementation, and identify future directions in ocean data and information management. These goals will also be included in the multi-sectoral vision of the Ocean Decade.
The Conference will be held as a hybrid event with a number of participants on-site in the Sheraton Hotel, Sopot, while others will participate through video conference.
